10 Verses to Comfort Your Broken Heart

by christiannewsjournal

A breakup can be such a painful experience during our dating years. It’s something I never wanted to go through, and I’m sure you don’t hope to walk through deep heartbreak either. I don’t know anyone who’s entered a relationship hoping it will end with a broken heart, that’s for sure.

We hope our relationship will work out beautifully—that we’ll live happily ever after. Sadly, the majority of us will experience a broken heart at some point in our dating days.

If you’ve been there or are going through it right now, I’d love to offer you some hope and encouragement. This post includes ten of my favorite Scripture passages that I turned to when I went through my own breakups. These 10 verses brought me comfort, hope, and direction for dealing with my broken heart.

1. God cares.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? (Matt. 6:26–27)

2. God can be trusted.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Prov. 3:5–6)

3. God can change your heart.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Ps. 51:10 NIV)

4. God is your shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. (Ps. 23:1–3)

5. God is your refuge.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Ps. 46:1 NIV)

6. God offers peace.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. (Is. 26:3 NIV)

7. God’s grace is sufficient.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Cor. 12:9–10 NIV)

8. God is close to the brokenhearted.

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Ps. 34:17–18 NIV)

9. God is your comforter.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Cor. 1:3–4 NIV)

10. God is the safe place for your cares.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Pet. 5:7 NIV)

Bethany Beal: After a brief experience in the modeling industry, Bethany’s eyes were opened to how self-absorbed and lost her generation of young women really are. She and her older sister were inspired to start a blog (www.GirlDefined.com) and wrote a book Girl Defined: God’s Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity and Identity. Their passion is to help young women find God’s truth about beauty and womanhood and the freedom that comes from living a radically different life for Christ.
