A National Day of Prayer in Israel Gains Momentum

All Israel News editor-in-chief Joel Rosenberg wrote a moving article Wednesday focused on following the pattern in Scripture as evangelical Christians to mourn with those who mourn as both Israeli and Palestinian families are experiencing loss of life, pain, suffering, disruption, fear and much more as the Israeli-Hamas war nears the 30-day mark.

Rosenberg called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Issac Herzog and the entire Knesset to publicly call for a National Day of Prayer based on 2 Chronicles 7:14, which reads, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

According to All Israel News Rosenberg noted his request wasn’t to criticize but to encourage and remind the leadership of God’s promises and His desire for humble repentance not just as individuals but as a nation.

The response from various rabbis was encouraging as they expressed their belief that it was urgent for Israelis to “turn, as an entire society, to prayer and fasting, seeking God’s mercy, forgiveness, and favor for the war to end quickly, decisively and with as few deaths as possible” as reported by All Israel News.

Both Orthodox Jewish leaders and Evangelical Christians are calling on Israel’s Chief Rabbi, David Lau to take the lead in the initiative.

Reportedly, Oded Revivi, the Orthodox Jewish mayor of Efrat, a city near Bethlehem, was the first to go public with the idea by reposting Rosenberg’s column on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the comment, “Although coming from an Evangelical clergyman, there is no doubt that there is a place to declare a National Day of Prayer,” the mayor wrote. He also issued a public statement calling on Lau and the elected officials to establish the suggested National Day of Prayer Monday, Nov. 6th, the 30th day of fighting.
