The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) urges government officials and school administrators to bring students back to the classrooms this fall.

AAP says schools are crucial to child and adolescent maturation. It’s advantageous for their well-being and provides our “children and adolescents with academic instruction, social and emotional skills, safety, reliable nutrition, physical/speech and mental health therapy, and physical activity opportunities other benefits.”

The statement, released on June 29, continues that extended time away from school is also associated with an interruption of supportive services, often results in social isolation, “making it difficult for schools to identify and address important learning deficits as well as child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation.”

While children can contract the virus, they have not been shown to be a main principal of the crises.

“Although many questions remain,” the statement maintains, “the preponderance of evidence indicates that children and adolescents are less likely to be symptomatic and less likely to have severe disease results from SARS-CoV-2 infection. In addition, children may be less likely to become infected and to spread infection.”

Republican Sen. Rand Paul criticized government experts about their response to Covid-19 on Tuesday.

“It’s important to realize that if society meekly submits to an expert and that expert is wrong, a great deal of harm may occur,” says Paul.
