Pastor Jack Graham penned in a recent opinion piece that there are many reasons to support the president.
“I often get asked why I, an evangelical pastor, so prominently and enthusiastically support President Donald Trump,” Graham wrote in a Dallas Morning News commentary. “There are many reasons, but here’s one of them that’s particularly key: President Trump is the most pro-life president in U.S. history.”
Graham is the pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. He added that Trump’s unapologetic commitment in preserving human life “is particularly relevant given that this weekend he became the first president ever to speak at the annual March for Life in Washington.”
He also pointed out that candidates, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, “support abortion rights and, if elected, their administrations would allow the use of taxpayer dollars to fund the procedure. Make no mistake– there would be no limit to their abortion policies.”
Seen as the most prolific pro-life president in history, Trump is following the footsteps of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush to protect the sanctity of life. “Most people know, and for those who would like to know, I am strongly pro-life, with the three exceptions — rape, incest and protecting the life of the mother — the same position taken by Ronald Reagan,” Trump said in 2019.
Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to undeviatingly address the March for Life in person, continuing to set his pro-life agenda.
“All of us here today understand an eternal truth. Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God,” he said. “When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God’s creation. Young people are the heart of the March for Life, and it’s your generation that’s making the pro-life, pro-family nation.”
However, the wheels were already in motion during the winter of 2017. Trump signed legislation overturning an Obama Administration rule prohibiting states from defunding abortion service providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving Title X funds. Planned Parenthood collected $564.8 million between 2017-2018 in federal funds and reimbursement grants, according to their annual report.
“Over the past three and a half years, President Trump has given ample evidence of his commitment to fight for the life of the unborn. In fact, he has, time and again, exceeded our expectations,” Graham wrote. “For example, in his first year in office, the president reinstated the Mexico City policy. The policy prevents foreign aid worth billions of dollars to be used to fund abortions or abortion-related practices.”
Graham added that evangelicals, who care about the sanctity of human life, will have to work harder to save the unborn if the Democrats take over the Oval Office.
“I’m thankful that President Trump has proven a reliable partner in this fight. Supporting him is a no-brainer.”
