Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas: ‘Biden Is Taking a Wrecking Ball to Our Constitution and to Our Liberty’

by christiannewsjournal

Appearing on the Fox News program “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday night (March 24), Texas Gov. Lt. Dan Patrick told host Tucker Carlson that Joe Biden—who last year at this time was a “shaky candidate” for the Democratic nomination—is now a “shaky president who is taking a wrecking ball to our Constitution, to our liberty and to our freedoms. He is destroying everything that this country was built upon.”

The lieutenant governor was appearing on the program roughly one year after he told Carlson about the dangers of the country’s then-move into lockdown mode because of the coronavirus pandemic.

At that time—March 2020—Patrick told Carlson, “I don’t pretend to be speaking for everyone 70-plus, but I think there are lots of grandparents out there who would agree with me. And I want my grandchildren to live in the America I did. I want them to have a shot at the American Dream. But right now, this virus—which all the experts say that 98 percent of all people will survive—is killing our country in another way. It could bring about a total economic collapse and potentially a collapse of our society. So I say, let’s give this a few more days or weeks, but after that let’s go back to work and go back to living. Those who want to shelter in place can still do so, but we can’t live with this uncertainty,” Patrick told Carlson in a long text.

“I just think there are lots of grandparents in this country … what we love more than anything are [our] [grand]children … I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed, and that’s what I see,” Patrick said in March 2020.

Patrick was hit hard by many liberals for those comments a year ago.

Back then, he also said, “We’ve got a choice here. And we’re going to be in a total collapse— recession, depression, collapse in our society—if this goes on for another several months. There won’t be any jobs to come back to for many people.”

Last night, Carlson asked Patrick, “As you look back over [the past] 12 months, what do you see in terms of what’s changed?”

“America is totally different [now],” Patrick responded. “A year ago tonight, we were in a different America. At that point in time, [President Donald] Trump looked like a shoo-in [for reelection]. We were not nearly as racially divided as we are today. Mobs had not taken over the streets. There were no autonomous zones,” added Patrick. “Most businesses frowned on most of their workforce working from home. Parents couldn’t imagine virtual schools. And socialism didn’t have America by the throat.”

Patrick noted that after 911, after World War II, after the Civil War, “those were dark periods in our history, difficult times. Our country changed. Our people changed. But we came out better for it, Tucker. We were stronger. We were resilient. We were united. This time—this dark period [right now]—is the first time we’re coming out in worse shape, in a much [more] dire situation because of how this change to socialism has happened—and [it’s happened] in the blink of an eye,” added Patrick.

The Republican added that a year ago, states like Texas and Florida understood that our society had to protect the most vulnerable—namely senior citizens—and that “everyone else had to keep working, that we had to keep America going.”

However, too many people, he said, “listened to those who said, ‘Go hide … live in fear.’ And they created chaos during this time. And that’s what socialism feeds upon. It creates fear and it creates chaos. And today, you know, are we on the road to perdition that we can’t come back from?” asked Patrick.

He said he didn’t have the answer to that, “but I know this. I believe in the American people,” said Patrick.

“I believe—unlike the left who hates America, and preaches that every day—I believe most Americans love this country. We’ve always done better. We’ve learned from our past. We’re a better country today than we were 50 years ago, or 100 years ago.”

He added, “So I’m counting on the American people to turn back” to the great nation we have been before, said Patrick.

He also said, “We need some Democrats in the Senate to stand up for American values.”

“We need some heroes right now in the Democrat Party, to stand up against the socialist, leftist, progressive, angry people … We need their party to stand up against Joe Biden.”
