Last week, governors in Arizona, Idaho, Montana and Oklahoma all signed pro-life legislation that include stricter abortion regulations that will protect the rights of the unborn. Here is an update:
- Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) signed a law to “ban abortions that target unborn babies with genetic defects such as down syndrome.”
- Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) passed a “measure to curtail abortion access,” signing a bill that would “outlaw nearly all abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected.”
- Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) signed three pro-life bills, which included “fetal heartbeat measure” language.
- Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) signed three bills that includes, “bans abortion after 20 weeks” of fetal development, and demands that health care providers “give pregnant women the opportunity to view an ultrasound before performing an abortion” and places other restrictions on abortion drugs.
“We applaud the courage and leadership of these states that protect the sanctity of human life,” stated Ed Vitagliano, executive vice president of the American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net). “It is time for state leaders to grip the wheel of government and steer their people in a God-honoring, righteous direction. The issue of life is but one of those arenas that needs men and women of character to enter as champions.
“States are once again becoming the proverbial laboratories for experimenting with the solutions our society desperately needs. Washington, D.C., is hopelessly polarized, moribund, and increasingly corrupt. The American people cannot look to the nation’s capital for help. In the minds of the Founders, states were always intended to be the main engine of American political life. It is past time to return to that original vision. For that to happen, we need Christian men and women who will offer to take their turn in service of their fellow countrymen.”
