C.S. Lewis

A new movie based on the book C.S. Lewis: The Most Reluctant Convert is set to begin production this month.

According to narniafans.com, Max McLean, of the Fellowship for Performing Arts, will head to the U.K. to begin shooting the movie on location.

The movie is based on McLean’s play of the same name that shows Lewis’ journey from atheist to believer.

“The difference about this play is it’s going to be on location all over Oxford. We have full access to Maudlin College, The Kilns, the church, [and] various other places that are mentioned in the play,” McLean said. “Instead of it being a one-person show, it’s going to be a multi-actor show. I’ll play the older Lewis, we’ll have a boy Lewis, a young Lewis in his 20s, cast his mother, his father, Tolkien, Barfield, Kirk, among others, and that is going to begin shortly.”

The movie was originally supposed to shoot later next year in 2022. But because of the Broadway shutdown, the movie adaptation’s filming was moved up to the end of this year.

“Since our plays have all shut down, we’ve moved up our feature film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ conversion story. That was designed to be a 2021/2022 project. Well, we’ve moved it up to September and October of this year,” McLean added. “I’ll be leaving tomorrow for the UK to begin shooting in mid-September (I have to quarantine for two weeks before we begin shooting).”

Other C.S. Lewis novels have been adapted, and some have even been recognized at the Movieguide® Awards.

At the 14th Annual Movieguide® Awards, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE won the Epiphany Prize® for Most Inspiring Movie of 2005.

“It’s really great to get this kind of recognition from organizations we have such great respect for,” Mark Johnson, producer of THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, said when accepting the award.

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE was also the Best Film for Families in 2005.

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA:  PRINCE CASPIAN was recognized in 2008 and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA:  THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER was recognized in 2011.

Movieguide® Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr helped produce THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE in the 1970s.
