Brinkman Adventures is a Beacon for Christian World Changers

There is power in stories. They are both unique and universal, connecting us, and revealing emotions that are relatable. Stories are the oldest form of passing on both knowledge and human experience. Humans are innate storytellers, from a simple bedtime story to a harrowing legend around the campfire. Stories deliver perspective, they tell of History, and they inspire. They are a mirror and a microscope; we see ourselves in each other’s stories and come to know something about ourselves that was often hidden prior to hearing someone’s narrative. Even more, humans grow through each other’s accounts, both emotionally and spiritually.

Oral literature, classified as Orature, is revered by some of the oldest cultures around the world as a means of recording history, teaching children, and connecting spiritually. From Africa to the Polynesian Islands and all the way to the Native American Tribes, Orature has served as a means of record keeping and cultural survival. It has played a consistent and essential role in modern literature of the West. And it is how Missionaries tell God’s story to others; offering assurance, answers, and peace; inevitably revealing purpose and that we are ALL part of God’s story. Today, the tradition of storytelling is still ripe, and more easily accessible. Having platforms like Audible, MP3 players, Audio books on CD’s, online platforms, and more.

The beauty of Storytelling is its engagement. It is more relatable, giving life to the stories through the characters, yet still allowing room for the listener’s imagination. Something, movies, television shows, and even video games are lacking. I was fortunate enough to have had the unique privilege of hearing a father’s story about his family’s ministry. It was profoundly moving. Understanding the impact of storytelling, they created their own platform with the hope to “inspire, motivate, and facilitate the next generation of Christian world changers by God’s grace and through His empowering hope.” It was evident through his storytelling of the development of his family’s audio drama that his passion for his work was florescent.

Mr. Bultman, along with his Wife, 10 children, board members, and voice-over actors from around the world have created an exciting radio show that tells true, modern, missionary stories through the fictional Brinkman family”.  Their website, www.brinkmanadventures.com, gives access to each twenty-six minute episode, now almost 97, all of which contain a Biblical theme, lesson, and compelling drama that are engaging and as they advertise, “will keep you on the edge of your seat”.  As, Bultman adds, the audio drama “uses modern sound effects, original music, and superb writing. Brinkman Adventures are Movies for the Ears.”

To grasp the Brinkman Adventures’ energy and driving purpose, knowing the Bultman’s story is imperative as it is as unique as their company. Originally the show was coined On the Brink, as their family was on the brink of a great new adventure together. The inspiration for Brinkman Adventures came to Mr. Bultman after one of his son’s was motivated to become a Paleontologist just through listening to an audio story from The Jonathan Park series. Parallel to his inspiration, he saw how moved his son was by listening to a great story. The simplicity was beautiful.

At that time, nearly 15 years ago, Mr. Bultman was on his required “Faith Based Leap” or spiritual retreat. Having served as music Pastor for over 12 years, he retreated to a hotel room where he prayed and read the Bible – continuingly coming back to A Lamp on a Stand from the Book of Luke: “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore, consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.” He was struck by two points: letting his family’s light shine and “consider carefully how you listen.”

And prophetically, like a rush of instructions or blueprint, he was given the vision of a way to influence modern missionaries by revealing missionaries or “Christian World Changers” from all over the globe. From that moment, he sought to ‘Create a missionary radio show that will inspire future missionaries’.  The family held auditions, in what he calls a “Grassroots American Idol Style”, only to realize that his children were fantastic actors and purposeful in the program. He soon began producing the radio show which “dramatized real missionary stories from around the world, resembled old-time radio, and incorporated Hollywood style sound effects, music, and acting.” Soon, radio stations in the US began picking up the series, and today stations across the globe broadcast these stories weekly. Brinkman Adventures is produced by Beachglass Ministries, Inc, a non-profit ministry.

Today, Brinkman Adventures offers over 90 episodes of listening with Season 9, “Straight On ‘til Dawn” now available. In addition to their audio series, they offer a full curriculum for homeschool families; complete with devotional, lesson plans, objectives, activities, and experiments your children or even Church groups can complete alongside their Audio Dramas. They also offer books, as well as access to their blog and podcasts. The Brinkman Adventures is truly a masterpiece that is sure to strengthen your faith and family.

The Bultman’s convictions are steadfast and can be recognized not only in my interview with Mr. Bultman, but through their website stating that, “We believe in the personal, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.” Mr. Bultman’s story is marvelous. Having listened to God’s calling, his family’s ministry has blossomed into a beacon of strength and hope for Christian World Changers.
