Allen West | ‘Hope Is Not in Man, It’s in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’

by christiannewsjournal

Lt. Col. (ret.) Allen West is a combat veteran, former Member of the U.S. Congress, and chair of the Texas GOP. He’s also president and CEO of The Hope Center, a 501(c)(3) incubator of Christian ministries making a global impact for God’s Kingdom. Christian News Journal talked with West about his faith in Jesus, culture/politics, The Hope Center, and his love of scuba diving! Here are a few takeaways from CNJ’s “3 Questions.”

On Faith | ‘Something that is greater than you.’

Faith has always been an integral part of West’s life since he accepted Jesus in January of 1980. The power of the Gospel helped him as a leader in the military.

“And when you think about being a commander in the military and deploying troops into a combat zone, you have to be able to find strength in something that is greater than you,” he said.

Top 10 Scriptures

West told CNJ about the Scriptures that have helped shape him over the last 60 years. Joshua, Joshua one, chapter nine, Proverbs three, five through six, Isaiah 54:17, Jeremiah 29, and 13, six through eight, John 16:33. Romans chapter five, verses three through five, Romans, chapter eight, verse 28, and 31, Philippians 4:13, and James chapter one, verses two through four.

“…I always go back to those fundamental verses, because I believe that as long as we have a fundamental faith, and we know what we’re grounded, and we can do, as it says in Philippians, 4:13, we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. Our hope is not in man, it’s in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and in our God.”
