Anne Graham Lotz with her husband, Danny Lotz

Danny Lotz, the husband of evangelist Anne Graham Lotz,  a popular Bible teacher and daughter of the Rev. Billy Graham, remains in the intensive care unit of a North Carolina hospital, according to AnGeL Ministries. Anne Graham Lotz’s organization.

Danny Lotz was rushed to a hospital after he was found unresponsive in the swimming pool of the couple’s Raleigh, N.C., home.

Anne Graham Lotz’s Facebook page said she found him there midafternoon Monday (Aug. 17).

According to one local media report, a friend of the Graham family, Jim Young said that Lotz has suffered from diabetic seizures for the past several years, and is on dialysis, which has required hospital visits in the past. It’s unclear if his diabetes had anything to do with this near-drowning, Young said.

“The family appreciates your continued prayers as they wait and trust in the Lord,” her Facebook page reads.

A Raleigh TV station, WRAL, reported that the Wake County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident.

On Tuesday afternoon Lotz wrote that her husband was holding his own.

“Thank you for your prayers as we walk through this valley of the shadow. Danny is holding his own. The next twenty-four hours are critical and should give us some answers,” Lotz wrote on her Facebook page.

Danny Lotz was a former college basketball star. At 6 feet 6 inches tall, he played on the North Carolina team that won the national championship in 1957. He had been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and for years led a popular men’s Bible study attended by hundreds of evangelical men from Raleigh and beyond. He married Anne Graham in 1966, and the two have three children.

Anne Graham Lotz launched her own ministry, AnGeL Ministries, and travels widely across the world, preaching mostly to women. She has written several devotional guides.
